Zhong Qiu Jie.
Never have i, even as a kid, commemorated this fairy-tale day.
The most i ever did was to look out my window at the trail of people marching their ways up into the gardens with lanterns clad in thier hands.
Holding almost no regard for this festival when i was young, i skipped school without fail every year on that day. C'mon... it's make-believe. How childish can these people get? Stupid man.... oh chang-er, will you please come back to earth to prove your existence?
My first 'celebration' per se was only few years ago when i went Hwa Chong Junior College with Eugene and Damien for their annual MAF {Mid-Autumn Festival}.
The culture shock could be easily attributed to the fact that i've never been to a school so chinese! Just being around was almost a dissonance, not absolute becasue i came from a chinese school {diff was that few spoke mandarin}.
There, Mandarin was glamourised... and i liked that.... seeing mandarin in a different perspective. Bk in sngs {the most properly cheena of my education}, we kinda poked fun at chinese... becasue we always mispronounced.. or at fellow school mates {like Letitia} who couldnt even speak chinese.
It was even worse at my unspeakable school. No one bothered. Wait, did we even hold a celebration? Oh well, i dont give two hoots.
Help! Im digressing again! Anyway, today just reminds me of the hcjc day. And when i innocently asked Jason if he was coming back for MAF, he chided me for reminding him... guess hcjc's the only thing he likes in Singapore?
Oh yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEE KUAN YEW!
{sigh... that reminds me that i've not read the LKY memoir} I respect him for his wits. I dont think it's easy squeezing the nation and making its people so obedient {might not be good}.
